How do you create a haven of relaxation in the city that never sleeps?
Located in the heart of New York City, our project focuses on the transformation of a rooftop terrace into a vibrant and sustainable urban oasis. This endeavor marries a lush green escape with the dynamic energy of the city skyline, aiming to create a harmonious retreat amidst the bustling urban environment. LILA designed a series of distinct areas within the terrace to accommodate various activities such as lounging, dining, and social gatherings for residents of the building.
Our primary objective is to craft a multifunctional space that not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the building but also serves as a haven for relaxation, social interaction, and environmental stewardship. The high winds of this location demanded a robust planting strategy. Our use of low groundcovers, shrubs and evergreens allows for a garden space that is functional and eco-friendly. Our plant selection offers year-round visual interest and seasonal variation, ensuring the garden remains inviting throughout the year.
Distinct lighting built into the planter walls and site furniture creates a dramatic and subtle glow during the night that rounds out this garden as a place to enjoy during the day and one that comes alive at night.
